Arising from Pope Francis’s encyclical, Laudato Si’, a group has formed to consider how we, as a community, can be more ecologically minded. We do this in several ways: walks in nature in the Dublin area, visits, working with other parishes/ organisations, using fairtrade products and a book club. We are a member of Eco Congregations Ireland.
The group visited An Tairseach, Organic Farm and Ecology Centre in Wicklow. Some members of the community also belong to other organisations: Friends of Friday for Futures to support young people’s campaign to combat climate change and to BOLD Climate Action set up by older people concerned about climate change.
BOOK CLUB
We study a wide range of books with the intention of our coming to a deeper understanding of our role individually and as a community in living fully within creation. The book club explores the common ground between spirituality and ecology. We usually meet every two weeks by zoom to discuss the book we are now reading. We have continued to hold meetings by zoom since Covid, this facilitates members living outside Dublin and decreases our carbon footprint!
We have organised meetings and conversations with authors. We have met with Donal Dorr author of A Creed for Today: Faith and Commitment for our New Earth Awareness. Recently we met Diarmuid O’ Murchu author of Ecological Spirituality. We have had a guided walk with Eanna Ni Lamhna in the woodlands of UCD campus. We read her Wild Musings: A Celebration of the Natural World.
All are welcome to be part of this book club. See more about us here.
